Senior Vice President
Chuck Alston is senior vice president and director of health policy and public affairs at Qorvis MSLGROUP. A nationally recognized expert in health policy communications, he brings a background in policy and politics and a deep knowledge of medical and health care delivery and payment issues to bear for diverse corporate and non-profit clients. He has worked on public affairs, thought leadership, marketing, and issues management and crisis assignments for some of the best-known brands in health care.
Alston served as executive director of the Democratic Leadership Council and its affiliated think tank, the Progressive Policy Institute. Prior to that, he was an award-winning investigative reporter and editor at Congressional Quarterly and the Greensboro News & Record. His columns have appeared in numerous publications including the Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal. His radio and television appearances include CBS Face the Nation, C-SPAN and National Public Radio. He has won several awards for public service and investigative journalism, including the Scripps-Howard Foundation Distinguished Journalism Citation for outstanding environmental reporting.
Alston was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. He has led two research projects for the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) and served on several of its issue colloquiums. He has also served as a reviewer for JAMA Internal Medicine (formerly the Annals of Internal Medicine).
